Takata Corporation Reaches Settlement for Faulty Airbags

Airbags-pl1az09dre195qopn7sekxajwedejl4wudk2neo7ou

Airbag manufacturer Takata recently reached a bankruptcy deal with its creditors, creating a trust fund for victims injured by its product. Faulty Takata airbag inflators exploded in crashes, shooting metal shrapnel into the vehicle cab. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, at least 15 people were killed and 240 were injured.

Takata Airbag Individual Restitution Fund

The multimillion-dollar fund will provide settlements for people injured by the exploding airbags. If you were injured by a Takata airbag, you may have a claim even if your injury wasn’t severe. Victims who aren’t satisfied by their settlement offer from the fund also still have the option to go to court. Non-injury related settlements aren’t covered by this trust fund, though class-action lawsuits are underway.

Recall Efforts

The massive recall affected 37 million vehicles across many makes and models. If you haven’t checked if your car, truck or SUV is a part of this recall, be sure to do so. Consumer Reports allows you to look up your vehicle by its VIN or make, model and year.
